C and A of circles

Review of C and A of circles.

A few kids have asked for a video, so here it is. Again, I’d watch the much more professionally created videos that have cool effects and nice background music.

Although, I did use THREE (count them, three!) different pencil crayons!

Grade 8 Website!

That is the link to our shared website. It has our calendar and all 4 classes remind logs on it. Easy, one stop spot for help organizing your schedule and keeping up with what’s new.

I also have it as my top link to the right —> for our quicklinks.

It’s also linked from the boyne website.

Why did I put it so many places? It’s for parent interviews when parents ask how they can help you stay organized and responsible.

Not great with your multiplication facts?

Posted September 10, 2017 By mark

Check out this game.

It lets you race using one of the operations of your choice. If you’re not great at these facts, this is a great way to work on them.

These are from when I taught a grade 5/6 split, but they are great to look back on after summer and refresh some number sense skills for grade 8 as well. Check them out! As always, feel free to ask me to explain something in person if it isn’t “clicking”!

Welcome to Grade 8 @ Boyne!

Posted August 10, 2017 By mark

Greetings! I am psyched to be teaching Grade 8 Math at Boyne this year!

This will be my 13th (lucky!) year teaching. I have taught every grade from Kindergarten to Grade 8 in some capacity in my career already. Math is my favourite subject to teach and I was a Math Coach for 3 years, so I have a lot of practice!

In my classes you can expect a lot of the following

  • problem solving
  • working in pairs, groups
  • a focus on WHY instead of how
  • technology (3d printing, programming, etc)

I am a firm believer in quality over quantity. We will learn to solve problems and gain skills and knowledge together. I am excited! I am hoping to have some google hangout sessions with people working in the STEM fields (science, tech, engineering, math) talking about how math helps them in their careers.

Outside of school, I have two kiddos and I like video games, reading and hiking.

This website will be used infrequently, but will link to our google classrooms and other sites we will frequent.

See you soon!
